deep fried hope

SOUP commemorates the memory of the 2019 San Diego County Fair in a new artist’s book made in collaboration with Ian Edward White, a photographer based in San Diego, CA.

“The American fairground acts as a pedestal for our culture, elevating its status to near god-like proportions, while ironically defying any biblical foundation.
Through the relentless encouragement of gluttony, greed, and lust, the hypocrisy of “good ol’ american fun” is exposed as mere simulation.
In this sense, Deep Fried Hope is a humorous non-linear criticism of Americana, but also
a reflection of my personal fair experience.”
